Aurma Fish

Creature of Runeterra

A sentient fish from the island nation of Aurma, marked by teeth that jut past its jaw and valued by Piltover traders for its roe and hide.

The Aurma Fish is a marine species that takes its name from Aurma, the island nation off which it originates. It favors the warmer waters of the sea, and it is reckoned a sentient creature rather than a simple animal, setting it apart from ordinary catch. Its most striking feature is its dentition. Rows of sharp teeth extend outward past the jaw, remaining visible beyond the mouth and giving the fish a distinctly menacing look despite its modest size. Beyond the water, the Aurma Fish carries real commercial value. Its roe and its hide are both counted as prized goods, and merchants from Piltover pursue the two with steady demand, tying this island species into the trade networks of the wider mainland. The fish also appears far from Piltover's markets. In the account known as A Feast Fit for a King, the northern king Yettu tilts his head back and slides an entire Aurma fish down his throat during a gorging contest against Trundle, its tail vanishing into his gullet in a single swallow. The moment places the Aurma Fish among the fare of a troll feast, small enough to be devoured whole even as the trolls tear through drüvask, whale, and mammoth.
