Bawkatrice

The Bawkatrice is a bird that has lost the ability to fly, keeping to the ground rather than the sky. Its most recognizable feature is its tail, which carries feathers marked by strong color that make the animal easy to pick out against the undergrowth. As a flightless species, it moves and forages on foot through the terrain it inhabits. The Bawkatrice is classified as sentient, a designation that sets it apart from ordinary animals and points to a genuine awareness in how it experiences its surroundings. This places it among the thinking creatures of Runeterra rather than the merely instinctive ones. Forests make up the natural home of the species. Its recorded range spans two regions, having been observed in the woodlands of Bandle City as well as in Demacia, which places its populations across both the yordle homeland and the northern kingdom. The bird also holds a connection to Poppy, one of the champions of Runeterra.
