Demon

Demons are a race of sapient spirits native to Runeterra, though not one of them holds a shape of its own. A demon takes form only through the darker feelings that stir within mortal minds, shaped and compelled by the negative thoughts of the living. The weight of those emotions is what lends it both substance and purpose, and its entire reason for being is to draw suffering out of others. Each demon binds itself to a single emotion and hunts for that feeling wherever mortals carry it. Once it settles on a victim, it does not merely wait. It maligns and manipulates the person, corrupting and misleading them to deepen their distress so it can feed on the emotion it craves. The feeding never relents, and the one caught in it is worn away until death finally arrives. Demons have surfaced across many parts of Runeterra rather than rising from any single homeland, gathering most readily in places already heavy with unrest and misery, where strong negative feelings give them the most to consume. Demons are counted among the oldest and most terrifying entities in all of Runeterra. They embody fundamental fears and vices, the raw dread and weakness of mortal hearts given a will of their own. The oldest may reach back to the very beginning of such things: Fiddlesticks is thought by some to be the first demon of all, an ancient of terror whose existence predates the rest.
