Drüvask

Drüvasks are the massive, boar-like war-beasts of the Freljord, larger than any ox and built for the killing cold. Thick, wiry fur covers hides the texture of weathered leather, and jutting tusks crown heads so heavy that a rider must haul on the reins to turn them. They are ill-tempered by nature, snorting and stamping their cloven hooves, their hot breath steaming in the frozen air, and even a seasoned handler keeps a firm grip. When Scarmother Vrynna's tusked mount snarled and stamped, a single sharp kick was enough to silence it. Among the Winter's Claw, the drüvask is the mount of choice for raiders, scarmothers, and shamankas alike. Thorva, Sister of Frost, rode a foul-tempered beast she called Ice-Tooth, the bone charms at her wrist rattling as she patted its shaggy neck, while Vrynna sat astride a tusked behemoth even larger. In the hands of an Iceborn rider the bond runs deeper still: when Sejuani's unease reaches her steed, ice crackles around its claws, the beast's feelings resonating with those of its soul-bonded rider. The most storied drüvask is Bristle, Sejuani's own mount. She freed him as a juvenile from the butchery stores of a Noxian warship during the raid that first won her a name, and called him Bristle for the feel of his hide. He grew into one of the largest drüvasks ever seen, twice the size of his peers and as wide as a mammoth, his shoulders rising higher than the Warmother herself and heavier than a dozen men. He remained her loyal steed through her rise to lead the Winter's Claw. Beyond war, drüvasks are hunted as game across the north. Trundle's sack of winter kills held their carcasses alongside elnük, feral hogs, and mountain goats; wild trolls fashion helmets from hollowed-out drüvask skulls, and their flanks feed the feasts of troll kings such as Yettu. To spirit walkers like Udyr, the scattered thoughts of nearby drüvasks join those of the elnük and horses in the ceaseless chorus of Freljordian wildlife that only he can hear.
