Elemental Dragon
Primal draconic beings tied to Runeterra's elemental forces — fire, water, earth, and wind.
The great elemental dragons are among the most ancient and powerful creatures in Runeterra, draconic beings bound to the primal forces of the world. Once far more numerous, they have grown rare, and only a handful of places across the continent still hold their nesting grounds. Each manifests one of four elemental aspects, Infernal, Ocean, Mountain, and Cloud, and its power is felt in the very land around it.
That elemental nature can reshape terrain outright. An Infernal dragon burns away brush and opens clear lines of sight, an Ocean dragon carves new waterways and healing pools, a Mountain dragon raises walls of rock, and a Cloud dragon opens swift paths through the air, and wherever they roost the world bends toward the element they embody.
One such elder beast, Yvva, lairs in chambers beneath a lost volcano long after the fall of the Shuriman empire, guarding a clutch of eggs so precious that scores of thieves died trying to steal them. When a mage at last carried off an egg, it hatched not into a dragon but into a violet-skinned baby girl. Unable to abandon her, he raised the child as his own and named her Shyvana, after her brood-mother's dark legend. Shyvana grew able to shift into a monstrous half-dragon form, marking her as no mortal child.
Yvva did not forget the theft. Years later she hunted Shyvana to the Demacian castle at Wrenwall, where Shyvana had carried the wounded prince Jarvan IV to safety. As the dragon appeared on the horizon, Jarvan rallied the garrison while Shyvana rose to meet it in the sky. The battle was swift and deadly. Shyvana slew Yvva, and the two returned in triumph to the Great City with the dragon's skull in tow.
The dread these creatures inspire reaches far beyond Demacia. In the magical forests of Ionia, the young vastaya later known as Wukong once sent his whole tribe fleeing by claiming a great elemental dragon was coming to burn their woodland home, until they learned it was one of his pranks.
