Fuemigo

Fuemigos are small elemental fire spirits of Ixtal, born from the healing form of fire magic that only Milio, the boy called the Gentle Flame, has learned to command. In a land where the axiomata bend the elements toward power and where fire is treated as a destructive force, a fuemigo is the opposite: a friendly flame that warms, comforts, and mends rather than burns. The first fuemigo appeared when Milio, still a young child, followed summer fireflies to a village hunter who lay injured and unable to move. His fire axiom could not keep her stable, so he tried to adapt it into a force that could heal, and as he laid his hands on her wound he felt her inner flame, familiar and soothing. Focusing that feeling, he manifested a creature, small and timid with wide, friendly eyes, and set it on the wound, where it healed her from the inside out. He named this new axiom soothing fire, and when he later manifested another flame dancing in his palm for his family, he called it his fuemigo. His grandmother Lupé, a former axiomata, was both amazed and unsettled, for his gift ran against Ixtal's traditional teachings. To carry his companions, Milio and Lupé fashioned the furnasita, a backpack furnace that keeps an ever-burning fuemigo cozy and houses the flames he commands in battle. At twelve, he left his village to cross Ixtal for the capital of Ixaocan, aiming to join the Yun Tal and face the Vidalion. Along the way his fuemigos kept him warm as he camped under the stars, lit his path, and healed jungle critters and injured villagers alike; they even saw through Neeko's disguise when she took Milio's shape. He treats them as family and helpers both, rallying them with the same cheer, that there is always a lot of work to do.
