Giant Squid

The Giant Squid belongs to the waters of Bilgewater, where it keeps to the deep seas well below the surface. Though its form is purely that of an animal, it is counted among the sentient inhabitants of the region rather than dismissed as simple prey. Size sets the Giant Squid apart. Most grow to roughly the dimensions of a house, and some are reported to reach well past that mark. That bulk alone makes the creature a genuine hazard to anyone crossing open water, for a Giant Squid will at times rise from the depths against smaller vessels and strike at them directly. A ship caught within reach of one has little to answer with. Despite the danger, the Giant Squid is still hunted. Some go after it for its meat, others simply for the standing that comes with felling so large a beast. Whatever the motive, the pursuit is a deadly gamble, since closing with an animal of this size and temper exposes the hunter to the same fate it deals to unlucky ships.
