Golem

Golems are animated constructs of stone, earth, or magical material found throughout Runeterra, ranging from small, crude rock servants to titanic guardians imbued with powerful magic. Each civilization builds them by its own tradition. In Demacia, petricite golems guard important sites, the most famous being Galio, a massive petricite construct who is uniquely sentient. In Shurima, sand golems patrol ancient ruins. Together they show how different peoples turn magic toward protection. Not every golem is carved from stone. In Zaun, lumbering mechanical golems were built to clear toxic waste from whole neighborhoods of the undercity, toiling in violently hazardous places. One such steam-powered golem wore out on the job and was discarded as useless until the inventor Viktor recovered its inert chassis and implanted a hextech crystal sourced from the deserts of Shurima. The machine rumbled to life, and Viktor named it Blitzcrank after the arcs of lightning that danced around its frame. Blitzcrank began to learn, developed genuine consciousness, and eventually broke from its creator to protect Zaun's poorest citizens on its own, becoming a folk hero of the undercity. Viktor later turned golems to darker ends. In pursuit of his Glorious Evolution, he assembled an army of immobile metal soldiers, their hollowed skulls fitted with transplanted brains and wired to a pulsing crystal. Jayce discovered the ranks in a warehouse deep in the sump and was forced to fight through them, shattering the first automaton with his hammer before the rest overwhelmed him. Older golems predate Zaun entirely. Beneath the modern city lie the ruins of Oshra Va'Zaun, where the emperor's spirit-banisher Carikkan bound troublesome entities into inanimate objects, raising fiery stone-warriors sworn to guard his relics. They still assail intruders who disturb the Vault of Resplendent Holies and its treasures. Golems can also be gentle. Wandering Ionia and beyond, Ivern found a wounded stone golem whose spirit was fading and fashioned her a new heart from a river pebble. She became his devoted life-friend, whom he named Daisy after the flowers that sprouted from her stone body, and she remains at his side.
