Haestryr

Haestryr is the wayward spirit Aurora travels with, a being who takes the form of a monstrous, twisted elk. She met him while traveling outside her home village of Aamu: feral and afraid, lashing out with bloodstained antlers. It took time, but she earned his trust, and when every attempt to help him failed she convinced him to travel with her, using her powers to tuck him away in the spirit realm while she worked to unravel his mystery. For most of that journey he was nameless to her. Udyr, the tundra's most powerful spirit walker, needed one look to recognize the immense power in him, but found him too lost to commune with and sent Aurora to ask the demigods instead. It was Ornn who answered, at Hearth-Home: the elk is Haestryr, one of Ornn's own siblings, and Hestrelk was what he was once commonly called. He was originally a powerful demigod. As worship of the Old Gods waned, many demigods lost their identities and became distorted shadows of who they once were, and that is what Aurora has been walking beside. Ornn also told her of Ysjarn, the cryophoenix caught in an eternal cycle of birth, life and death, and of his brother Valhir, whose relentless storm rages against the Freljord. Believing those demigods hold the key to Hestrelk's recovery, Aurora left Hearth-Home to find them. The Spirit of Hearth-Home, the point-and-click adventure Riot ran for Aurora's launch, is that meeting rendered as a game: you play Aurora tidying the reclusive demigod-blacksmith's forge to earn his help for her ailing companion. The game itself never names him. Its English script has Aurora asking whether Ornn knows "anything about my friend" and Ornn answering that he knows "very little" about him, and the companion's own files carry nothing but a working name, Elky.
