Sand Swimmer

Creature of Runeterra

Massive serpentine creatures that burrow through Shuriman deserts like water.

Sand Swimmers are enormous serpentine beasts that move through the deserts of Shurima as though the dunes were open water. Their long, armored bodies, smooth and streamlined, can reach tremendous lengths, and they glide beneath the surface with the fluid, undulating motion of a great snake cutting through the sea. Where an ordinary creature would sink and struggle, the Sand Swimmer swims. They are ambush predators, and their method is patient and merciless. A Sand Swimmer lies hidden below the sand until prey wanders within reach, then erupts from the dunes in a spray of grit to swallow its victim whole. The only warning most travelers receive is the ripple that runs through the sand ahead of the strike, a faint disturbance that Shuriman guides learn to watch for and to dread. To those who cross the deep deserts, the Sand Swimmer embodies the treachery of Shurima itself, a land where death can rise from beneath one's own feet without a sound. Its presence turns the open dunes into a hunting ground, and the vast emptiness that looks so still on the surface becomes, in truth, a place where the ground may be alive and hungry.
