Seagull
Scavengers that picked over carrion where Lucian and Mira searched Venaru's coast in Homebound.
Seagulls are an avian species found along the coastlines of Runeterra, where colonies gather on rocky shores and windswept cliffs. They are opportunistic scavengers that pick at carrion left along the tideline, congregating wherever carcasses wash onto the rocks.
Their habits are recorded in the short story Homebound, set on the Island of Venaru. As Lucian and a local named Mira searched the island's rocky western coast for her missing father, they came upon a colony of dead sea lions sprawled across the rocks below a ridge. Seagulls scurried among the carcasses, picking at the bloated remains as the pair pressed on.
Farther along the twisting shoreline, near a stretch of towering cliffs where a broken ship's mast lay lodged among the rocks, another colony of seagulls circled the shore. On Venaru's storm-battered coast, the birds served as grim markers of the wreckage and death the sea had carried in, a constant presence above the craggy line where the water meets the land.
