Silverwing

Creature of Runeterra

They lend their name to the Silverwing Knights, the order Jarvan IV was given to command.

Silverwings, known also as silverwing raptors, are griffin-like birds of prey found in the northern highlands of Demacia. They favor the kingdom's craggy frontier and are kept in military aviaries within the mountainous settlements that watch the colder marches near the Freljord. These raptors haunt the wild lands of Demacia's north, a region of forested highlands craggy with cliffs and plunging chasms. In the short story For Demacia, as Lux rode from the heartland toward High Silvermere, the City of Raptors, and on to Fossbarrow near the dogtooth mountains bordering the Freljord, silverwing raptors screeched overhead, dueling unseen in the clouds while the walls of each settlement rose higher with every mile. Deeper in a Demacian forest, their sudden silence, along with the stilled chatter of every other animal, warned Lux of an unnatural sleeping magic creeping through the trees. The birds also lend their name to a Demacian order of knights. When Prince Jarvan IV came of age, his father, Jarvan III, granted him command of the silverwing knights who guard the Great City. Though the heir to the throne was not expected to take the field, Jarvan was determined to prove himself, and pledged to bring order to the lawless frontier beyond the Argent Mountains long contested by Noxus. Through such ties, the silverwings remain bound to the warrior nobility of Demacia, among them Garen and Jarvan IV himself.
