Tamu

Creature of Runeterra

Sheared twice yearly by Rakkor shepherds, though strays risk a bolor's diving strike.

The tamu is a quadrupedal mammalian herbivore of Targon that dwells mostly in the lower plains and valleys around Mount Targon. The animals are known for their lush coats, which grow thick against the cold of the high mountains. Tamu are a domesticated part of life on the mountain, raised in flocks by the Rakkor. Shepherds drive herds of goats and tamu together through the valleys beneath the looming peak. The creatures are valued above all for their wool: their lush coats are sheared twice each year and woven into warm clothing and other textiles, a practical harvest against the piercing cold that settles over Targon as winter approaches. In the wild the tamu is prey rather than predator. The bolor, a predatory creature of the same mountains, is famous for the trilling cry it emits before swooping for a kill, gliding in long leaps along the thermal currents on aerodynamic feathered limbs. It is especially fond of hunting stray tamu that wander from the safety of the flock.
