Thunderhorn

Thunderhorns are large, omnivorous beasts native to the frozen expanse of the Freljord, where they range across cold, snow-covered terrain. Their sheer bulk makes them among the most valuable game a Freljordian clan can bring down. A single kill yields enough meat to sustain a tribe for weeks, and hunters prize even a young thunderhorn as roughly a month of food for an entire clan. Because such a catch can mean the difference between survival and starvation through the long winter, thunderhorn hunts are serious, deliberate undertakings guided by tradition. In the account known as A Good Day, drawn from the Realms of Runeterra, a starving hunting party sets out after a month without a successful kill. The scout Ice-Runner discovers the tracks of a large thunderhorn, and after consulting totems of the old gods, the hunt leader Shiverbones resolves to pursue it despite worsening weather. The hunt does not go as planned. When the party finally reaches their quarry, they find the thunderhorn already dead, slain not by their spears but by a wildclaw. Ice-Runner identifies the predator responsible, revealing that even a beast as formidable as a thunderhorn is not the deadliest thing stalking the Freljord snows. The wildclaw turns on the hunters, killing Rylor and mortally wounding Ice-Runner before young Vrynna helps Shiverbones bring the creature down. For the clans of the Freljord, the thunderhorn embodies both the promise and the peril of the hunt. It is a source of life in a land that offers little, yet claiming one means venturing into territory contested by predators just as lethal as the prey itself.
