Undead Wraith

Undead Wraiths are the tortured spirits of those who died in the Ruination, the catastrophe that destroyed the Blessed Isles and left them cursed as the Shadow Isles. When that curse fell, countless souls were caught between life and death, unable to pass on and unable to return. What remained of them twisted into howling, spectral entities, bound to the ruin of the land that had once sheltered them. These wraiths hunger for the life force of the living, drawn toward it the way moths are drawn to flame. They are not confined to the islands of their making. The Black Mist that periodically rolls out from the Shadow Isles carries them across the water to distant shores, so their haunting reaches far beyond the cursed isles themselves. Wherever the Mist spreads, the wraiths follow, making their true range the Shadow Isles and everywhere the Black Mist can touch. As the most visible consequence of the Ruination, Undead Wraiths stand at the center of the Shadow Isles' story. They share their cursed home with the figures bound to it, among them Thresh, Hecarim, Karthus, Yorick, Kalista, and Viego, and remain the clearest sign of what the Ruination did to the souls it trapped.
