Avarosan

The Avarosan tribe is the largest and most peaceful of the three great tribes of the Freljord, united under Warmother Ashe, the Frost Archer. It takes its name from Avarosa, one of three ancient sisters whose alliance once held the frozen north together. Ashe claims descent from that legendary queen and carries her bow of True Ice, an enchanted weapon that channels the purest cold of the Freljord, and many of her people believe she is Avarosa reborn. Where other tribes respect only brute strength, the Avarosans pursue unity through diplomacy, trade, and shared purpose rather than conquest. A Demacian envoy sent to assess the northern threat found no scattered barbarians in the Avarosan camp of the southern Freljord, but a people growing grain and laying the foundations of a civilization, led by a young woman diplomatic beyond her years who refused foreign aid with the reminder that her people fight their own battles. Unlike their rivals, the Avarosans trade with southerners rather than simply taking from them, and at their harvest festivals lesser tribes such as the Stonepicks, Red Snows, and Ice Veins gather to pledge themselves to the banner. Each tribe needs Ashe to be something different, a prophet, a savior, a mediator, a Warmother, and she tries to be them all. She has chosen mercy over vengeance even toward enemies, taking in the Snow Followers, Iceborn zealots who had slaughtered an Avarosan tribe, as family after their Warmother knelt before her rather than striking them down. Her political marriage to Tryndamere, the Barbarian King, merged the strength of their two tribes into the growing coalition. Ashe's hardest fight is not military but convincing the fiercely independent tribes that cooperation is strength, not weakness. She is opposed by the militant Winter's Claw of Sejuani, once her childhood friend and now her bitter enemy since Ashe turned from that tribe, and by the hidden machinations of Lissandra's Frostguard. The spirit walker Udyr came to believe the Avarosan drive to unite the Freljord was wounding the spirit of the land itself, and turned against them. Their hold beyond the south remains thin, with distant eastern villages loyal to Ashe falling to trolls and the Winter's Claw before help could arrive, leaving the Avarosans a large but still fragile alliance in a land generations at war with itself.
