Kinkou Order

The Kinkou Order is an ancient Ionian organization that appoints itself keeper of the sacred balance between the spirit realm and the material world. Its loyal acolytes walk both realms, mediating the conflicts that arise between them and intervening by force when harmony cannot be restored any other way. The order lives by three fundamental philosophies, Pruning the Tree, Coursing the Sun, and Watching the Stars, and it is led by the Eye of Twilight from the Kinkou Temple in Ionia. For generations the order was guided by Great Master Kusho, the Eye of Twilight, who was adept in the banishment of demons. When the creature known as the Golden Demon slaughtered travelers across Zhyun, Shon-Xan, and Galrin, the Council of Zhyun begged Kusho for help. He hunted it for four years alongside his son Shen and his young apprentice Zed. The demon proved to be Khada Jhin, a stagehand from a traveling theater, and Kusho ordered him imprisoned rather than executed, a mercy that planted lasting resentment in Zed. That resentment, sharpened by the Noxian invasion of Ionia, tore the order apart. Zed abandoned the Kinkou to fight the invaders, then returned with acolytes of his own, seized the temple in a bloody coup, and slew Kusho. Shen led the survivors, among them Kennen and the young Akali, into the eastern mountains. He took up his father's spirit blade and the title of Eye of Twilight, vowing to rebuild the order rather than avenge it. Zed's faction hardened into the Order of Shadow, the Kinkou's sworn enemy. Shen trained a new generation on the order's core tenets, including Akali Jhomen Tethi, daughter of Mayym the Fist of Shadow and student of Kennen, the Heart of the Tempest. But Akali came to believe the Kinkou's restraint left Ionia defenseless, and she left to hunt its enemies as an independent assassin, rejecting years of cautious treading under Shen. The order remains active, still guarding Ionia's spiritual balance and still sought out by embattled communities begging for reinforcement, though its missions have long cost its acolytes their families and their lives.
