Rakkor

The Rakkor are the mountain people of Targon, the main tribe dwelling on the hostile slopes of the Great Mountain and known to many as the Tribes of the Last Sun. Theirs is a martial and devout society. Children are raised to the discipline of the Sun, trained in both religious instruction and war, and taught that their highest honor is to fight and, if need be, to die in the war of Sun and Darkness. From this single tribe descend both of Targon's great faiths, the sun-worshipping Solari and the hidden Lunari. Most Rakkor follow the Solari, whose temples school acolytes from a young age in oratory, wargames, and the tenets of the faith, and whose warriors serve in the golden-armored infantry and the elite militant order, the Ra'Horak. Their year turns on rites such as the Festival of the Nightless Eve, and their teachings speak only of the Sun, naming the night simply the Darkness. Yet the Rakkor once revered the moon as well. Diana, a foundling raised in the Solari temple, uncovered chambers depicting sun and silver-clad warriors side by side and rediscovered the suppressed Lunari faith, a heresy her friend Leona begged her to forget. Above the Rakkor rises Mount Targon, which the first of them climbed to draw closer to their holy sun. At the summit they found not gods but the Aspects, otherworldly beings who cannot cross into Runeterra unaided and who bargain dearly for mortal hosts. Ever since, Rakkor have made the perilous ascent seeking the power of the Aspects, though most never survive the climb. Those who reach the peak may be chosen: Diana became host to the Aspect of the Moon and Leona to the Aspect of the Sun, their shared revelation collapsing into a battle of moonlight and sunfire. The tribe's most storied warrior is Atreus, born on Targon's slopes and named for a star in the constellation of War. Never the strongest recruit of the Ra'Horak, he climbed the mountain with his brother-in-arms Pylas and alone reached the summit, where the Aspect of War, the Pantheon, seized his body. When the Darkin Aatrox slew the Aspect itself, Atreus refused to die, rising by sheer will to take up the fallen spear and shield as a new Pantheon, sworn to stand against Aspects and any power great enough only to destroy. It was Aatrox, too, who drove the barbarian raiders that besieged the Rakkor's northern settlements.
