Sentinels of Light

The Sentinels of Light are an ancient, sacred order that can be traced back to the Blessed Isles, where the Black Mist originated. They are committed to fighting Harrowings and eradicating the agents of the Black Mist, guarding the living against the wraiths and ghouls that pour out of the Shadow Isles. Their weapons are forged from relic-stone, able to wound spirits that ordinary steel cannot touch, and many of their number range across Runeterra alone as solitary sentinels. The order renews itself by taking in those the Mist has scarred. Senna first met the darkness as a child, when wreckage from a distant Harrowing washed onto the shores of her home island and the Black Mist within it awakened upon contact with life. A brusque veteran sentinel named Urias saved her village, but the Mist remained drawn to her, marking her with a curse. Urias took her into the order, gave her a relic-stone pistol, and taught her to channel her soul into light. In Shurima, another sentinel named Shadya rescued the street youth Akshan from his enemies in Marwi and bound him to the same cause. When Urias was slain, Senna carried word of his death to his family in Demacia, where she met his son Lucian, who had long dreamed of following his father into the order. The two became partners in life and in battle. Later Senna died facing the chain warden Thresh in a forgotten eldritch vault, her soul imprisoned within his lantern, and Lucian hunted the spirit for years until a vengeful blow split the lantern open and freed her. The order had faded until Viego's Ruination escalated from a regional threat into a global catastrophe, spreading the Black Mist to the shores of every major nation and corrupting Runeterra's greatest warriors into Ruined champions. Overwhelmed, the Sentinels mounted a desperate search for new members and forged new weapons, Senna training the recruits while Lucian searched Shurima for the wielder of a legendary weapon. In the end they broke Viego among the Camavoran wreckage. The order endures as a roaming force led by Senna, still set against the Shadow Isles, the Ruined King, and Thresh.
