Mitna Rachnun

Location in Runeterra

Mordekaiser's self-forged death realm, a kingdom of enslaved souls.

Mitna Rachnun is the death realm that Mordekaiser built for himself, a kingdom forged not from earth and stone but from the souls of the dead. In his first life he was the warlord Sahn-Uzal, a conqueror who united tribes through fear and iron and expected, when he fell in battle, to be carried in triumph to the Hall of Bones promised by his faith. Instead he crossed into a gray and empty oblivion, a fog that stretched in every direction with no gateway of souls, no attendants, and none of the great conquerors said to wait beyond death. The promised reward had been a lie, and the lesser souls around him were already fading into nothing. Sahn-Uzal's will proved too strong to fade with them. Rather than accept oblivion he began to build, shaping battlements, ramparts, and towers of black iron from cruel magic and sheer resolve. Where there had been nothing, he raised his own reality and named it Mitna Rachnun, his Afterworld, a place whose every stone is his doing and whose mortar is made of captured souls. Angular Ochnun script, the forbidden language he mastered by whispering across the veil, runs through its halls, and an endless murmur of the damned fills the air, incessant and desperate. The realm swells with every soul Mordekaiser claims. His generals, the souls of those worthy enough to die at his own hand when he last walked the living world, stand at attention in his great hall and will not move without his command. At the center of his fortress lies a relic that ties Mitna Rachnun to the mortal plane, the same secret that gives the Immortal Bastion at the heart of Noxus its true purpose. Through that conduit the dead are siphoned into a great well of souls beneath the empty husk of his armor, feeding his kingdom from the world of the living. Twice slain and twice returned, Mordekaiser has been banished from the mortal world before, his spirit severed from his iron shell by an alliance of powerful mages. Each time he has withdrawn here to rebuild, and Mitna Rachnun is no longer the empty wasteland he first awoke to but a burgeoning empire of the dead. From his throne room he plots a permanent return, intending to merge his death realm with the living world and claim dominion over both life and death, so that all the souls of Runeterra might one day dwell within his iron kingdom, never to fade.
