Petricite Forest
Ancient forest of magic-absorbing petrified trees, source of Demacian petricite.
The Petricite Forest is an ancient stand of massive petrified trees that grows within the borders of Demacia, older than the kingdom that would come to depend on it. Its trees are unlike any other, drawing in and nullifying magic, and it is from them that petricite is taken, a peculiar white stone that dampens magical energy.
Demacia was founded by refugees fleeing the Rune Wars, people with every reason to fear the sorcery that had shattered the old world. Early Demacians discovered the forest and learned to harvest its petricite for construction, and their very capital was raised upon the stone. In time the material came to be used throughout the kingdom, worked into its walls and its institutions to suppress magical abilities wherever they arose.
What began as protection hardened into policy. The anti-magic stone drawn from the forest underpins Demacia's forbidding of magic and the work of the Order of Mageseekers, who hunt and capture those born with magical gifts. Even so, the forest still holds secrets about the true nature of petricite that few understand.
The petricite forests remain among the features most closely identified with Demacia, as bound to the kingdom's identity as the Immortal Bastion is to Noxus, and they stand today as a living wonder at the heart of the First Kingdom.
