Tuula

Location in Runeterra

Its monastery prison held Khada Jhin for years after Kusho spared his life at Jyom Pass.

Tuula is a coastal city set on the southern reaches of Zhyun island, one of the settlements of Ionia, the First Lands. Within it stands a monastery whose grounds include a prison, a place the Kinkou order used to confine those too dangerous to leave free. Tuula entered wider Ionian memory as the site chosen to hold Khada Jhin, the serial murderer known across Zhyun as the Golden Demon. After the Kinkou master Kusho, together with his students Shen and Zed, cornered and captured Jhin at Jyom Pass during the Spirit Blossom Festival, the young Zed moved to kill the cowering man. Kusho held him back, reasoning that the Kinkou had already broken their remit and that exposing Jhin's mere humanity might undermine the harmony and trust that defined Ionian culture. He ordered the killer taken alive and locked away within the monastery prison at Tuula. Shen disagreed but submitted to his father's judgment, while Zed, unable to accept the mercy, began to nurse a resentment that would define him. Imprisoned in Tuula, Jhin kept his secrets for many years and revealed little of himself. The monks who guarded him found him a bright student who excelled in smithing, poetry, and dance, yet they could find nothing to cure his morbid fascinations. Tuula's quiet ended with war. When the Noxian empire invaded and Zhyun descended into turmoil, the people of Tuula, along with those of Kashuri and Huroi, called for aid, but the Kinkou leadership bade its followers not to heed them. Sometime after the war with Noxus, Jhin was freed from Tuula, possibly put to use by one of the radical factions vying for power in the First Lands. The city remains active.
