Wuju Village

Wuju Village was a peaceful settlement on the mountainous island of Bahrl, within Ionia, and the home of the Wuju sword style. Its people were extraordinary swordsmen whose art bound martial precision to spiritual discipline. South of the village lay nothing but uninhabited woods, crossed by an old path of stepping stones set deep in the soil and mostly broken by time and neglect. The Wuju style demanded that every stance and move be executed with exacting precision, and its practitioners could enter a meditative state with impeccable speed and form. Its teachings were preserved not only as techniques but as poems, songs, and scriptures gathered in the Wuju texts. One foundational doctrine, The Trunk Is Sturdier than the Branch, held repetition to be the essence of mastery. The young Master Yi performed close to four thousand sword strikes a day, and even then found himself stalled at a plateau in his progress. The village's blades came from Doran, a weaponsmith who forged swords exclusively for Wuju swordsmen and completed only a few each season. He also served as Yi's teacher, once leading him south from the village along the forgotten path under the promise of training. In a meditative vision on that journey, Yi glimpsed foreign warriors armed with pikes, glaives, and halberds, their armies drawn up in ordered ranks that easily outnumbered the people of Wuju, and towers so vast that a single one could have housed the entire village. That contrast between the small community and the armies beyond it was borne out in the village's fate. During the Noxian invasion of Ionia, Wuju Village was obliterated and its practitioners all but wiped out. Master Yi survived the destruction and remains one of the last living masters of the Wuju style, carrying its discipline forward from a homeland that no longer stands.
