Celestial Magic

Celestial Magic is the primordial power that flows from the Celestial Realm, an enigmatic dimension of pure cosmic energy where beings of immense power dwell. It predates Runeterra and every mortal civilization, and because its source lies beyond mortal comprehension, the magic itself is never fully understood. Aurelion Sol was among the first to wield it, forging stars across the cosmos, until the Aspects of Targon tricked him into servitude and began channeling fragments of celestial power through mortal hosts atop Mount Targon. In the present age the power belongs to cosmic beings and their chosen. Aurelion Sol forges stars, Bard maintains the delicate cosmic balance, and Zoe, the Aspect of Twilight, wields it with a playful unpredictability that hides its destructive scale. Mortals who channel it, like Soraka, surrender much of their own nature to do so, for celestial magic is so difficult to bear that those who touch it are often consumed or transformed beyond their former selves. The power has left its mark far from Targon's peak. In Shurima, the Sun Disc was a source of celestial magic that empowered the empire's greatest champions, the Ascended, until betrayal ended their golden age and some who outlived the empire were driven mad into the Darkin. West of Targon, the sea vastaya known as the Marai guard their village with a moonstone infused with the celestial magic of the heavens, its light holding back the horrors of an abyssal rift and resupplied by a luminous wanderer from Targon's peak. After the Great Darkin War left the world in ruin, scattered survivors looked to the heavens and revived the ancient study of celestial magic, learning to draw hope from the patterns of the stars. Mount Targon itself is a gateway to the Celestial Realm, watched over by an Arbiter carved from crystal and imbued with stardust, which measures the spirit of any mortal who would join the tapestry of stars. Aspects such as the Protector, host to Taric, turn celestial magic into radiant shields and healing. Though the power is distant from the material world and ill-suited to close, personal confrontation, in the right hands it can still be bent to defend all of creation.
