Chemically Altered
Beings fundamentally transformed by Zaun's chemtech, Shimmer, or alchemical substances.
The chemically altered are individuals who have been fundamentally transformed at a biological level through exposure to Zaun's volatile chemtech compounds, Shimmer, and other alchemical substances. Zaun's reckless experimentation has produced many such beings, and their transformations are often uncontrollable, granting immense power at a severe physical or psychological cost.
Their stories run the full range of that bargain. Dr. Mundo was a patient at a Zaun asylum who subjected himself to experimental chemicals, becoming a massive, purple-skinned brute with incredible regeneration and a completely shattered psyche. Twitch is a plague rat mutated by Zaun's chemical runoff, which gave him intelligence, speech, and a fascination with crossbow engineering. Zac was grown in a chemtech vat, a living, sentient blob of Zaun gray goo who was rescued and raised by loving parents and became an unlikely hero. Warwick was a dying criminal experimented upon by Singed, who had himself been reshaped by decades of exposure to his own concoctions until he was something less than human in the pursuit of his research.
In Zaun, chemical alteration is an ever-present risk of daily life. The Sump's toxic environment mutates many of its residents, and Shimmer, a volatile substance that grants temporary power, has created a class of addicted and partially transformed individuals. The chemically altered embody Zaun at its most extreme, a place where innovation and desperation combine to produce marvels and horrors alike. Zac proves that even the most unusual origins can produce a hero, while Warwick and Dr. Mundo stand as warnings about the cost of unchecked experimentation.
