Demi-God

The Freljord's demi-gods are primordial beings, born of the land itself since the world was young and embodying the fundamental forces of the northern wild. Unlike the Shuriman Ascended, who were mortals raised by ritual, they shaped the Freljord in its earliest ages. The most storied are three siblings, Volibear, Ornn, and Anivia, who form the Freljord's divine triumvirate. Volibear, called Valhir and the Thousand-Pierced Bear, is destruction and the storm made manifest. He and his kin formed the land they called Vorrijaard long before the mortal races came, carving the Five Fjords with a single swipe of his claws. He demands worship and blood sacrifice from his savage followers, the Ursine, and grows in power with every offering made in his name. His brother Ornn, the Forgefather, was held to be the firstborn, who shaped the land and brought the first snows. Where Volibear destroys, Ornn builds, laboring in solitude beneath a dormant volcano to forge priceless tools. He was remembered by the Hearthblood, a lost people of smiths and builders, and it was Ornn who once forged Volibear's rune-inscribed armor. Anivia, the Cryophoenix, is the elemental soul of the Freljord and keeper of its cycle of life, death, and rebirth. A spirit-bird of ice whose wings span the heavens, she is bound to the land through an egg-form immortality, and her allegiance belongs to the land alone. The siblings drifted apart, then broke when three mortal sisters rose to impose order on the Freljord. Anivia was inclined to work with them, while Volibear wanted them destroyed. When Ornn refused to arm the Ursine for that war, the brothers fought, and Volibear cast off his armor and cursed Ornn's name. Over the centuries the tribes came to worship the Three Sisters and forgot the old ways. The demi-gods remain opposed by the ancient Lissandra, and Volibear has vowed to tear down civilization and return the Freljord to its wild state.
