The Spider God's children are mortals touched or transformed by Vilemaw, the great spider deity who dwells in the darkest depths of the Shadow Isles. Vilemaw is a monstrous entity that predates even the Ruination, and those who fall under its influence are reshaped in both body and purpose. Foremost among them is Elise, once a Noxian noblewoman, who now serves as the Spider God's most devoted hand. Elise came to the Shadow Isles seeking the legendary healing waters of the Blessed Isles, waters that no longer existed after the Ruination had claimed them. In their place she found Vilemaw, and she struck a bargain: the Spider God would grant her eternal youth and beauty, and in return she would periodically bring him sacrificial victims. The transformation she received lets her shift at will between a beautiful human form and a monstrous spider form, commanding swarms of spiderlings in battle. To feed her master, Elise leads a cult of devotees that operates chiefly in Noxus, drawing recruits from among the desperate and ambitious with promises of power and transformation. She lures Noxian pilgrims to the Shadow Isles under the pretense of a spiritual quest, only to deliver them to Vilemaw. Her ability to hold a convincing human guise makes her one of the most dangerous predators in Noxian high society, and the cult of the Spider embodies a subtler face of Shadow Isles corruption. It is not the mindless aggression of the Black Mist but a calculated, seductive rot that preys upon mortal desire.
