Ursine

The Ursine are a savage horde of half-bear warriors who roam the most desolate reaches of the Freljord. Once human shamans and warriors of the ancient north, they pledged themselves wholly to the Volibear and shed their humanity to become living embodiments of primal fury. To those who face them they appear as blade-pierced titans draped in bloodied fur and horns, reeking of wet fur and decay, each fighting with the viciousness of ten berserkers. Their transformation is worked through the storm itself. A spirit walker channels the raging tempest as a prayer, a direct line to their demi-god master, and as lightning strikes him his mouth stretches into a toothy maw and his nails blacken into claws, until he is neither man nor bear but something else entirely. Rejecting writing, walls, and settled life as corruptions of nature, the Ursine raid mortal settlements and tear down the works of civilization in the Volibear's name. Their god is the Volibear, the Thousand-Pierced Bear, a demi-god of storm and destruction who demands worship and blood sacrifice from his most devoted followers. When the Three Sisters rose to impose order on the Freljord, he looked to the most animalistic of his kind to destroy them and sought his brother Ornn, the Forgefather, to arm them. Ornn refused, disgusted by their savage ways, and the two demi-gods fell to fighting. Feared as the Lost Ones, the Ursine leave ruin in their wake. When they drove the warmother Olgavanna's fleeing tribe toward the ruined city of Hearth-Home, the Forgefather Ornn rose from his furnace to fight, and the Volibear himself took the field amid lightning and laughter, leaving the half-bears frozen in stone with faces petrified in agony. Even Sejuani of the Winter's Claw has sought to bargain with them, though her spirit walker Udyr warned that the Ursine obey no one and their bloodlust spreads like a sickness.
