Vastayashai'rei

The Vastayashai'rei belong to Runeterra's mortal races, and they hold the distinction of being one of the oldest. Their origin lies in mortals who reached a state of enlightenment and then drew the spirit realm's power directly into their own bodies. That act changed what they were, producing a sapient species with no parent lineage of its own. Ionia is the only region where the Vastayashai'rei are recorded, and no living members of the species are known to remain. They are classified as extinct. Records of them are tied to the Runeterran language, which covers all known tongues rather than any single dialect. Master Yi and Neeko are the champions connected to the Vastayashai'rei, and their stories carry what is known of the species forward.
