Watcher

The Watchers, sometimes called the Frozen Watchers or the Pierce-Eyes, are an ancient sapient race native to The Void. They stand above every living Voidborn as rulers rather than kin, and the earliest Voidborn forms trace back to them as prototypes they designed. No parent species is recorded for them, and whatever language they used is unknown. Their reach extended beyond The Void itself. The Watchers altered native inhabitants of the Freljord, remaking them into the Iceborn. That act eventually turned against them, since the Iceborn rose up against the rule of their makers. A myth that has largely faded from memory holds that the Howling Abyss came into being as a prison for the Watchers, forged by Ornn after the Three Iceborn Sisters asked him to build it. The race is classified as mortal in the six-part scheme used for the peoples of Runeterra, and its status is Mythic, meaning it survives more in story than in confirmed record. Anivia, Bel'Veth, Gnar, Lissandra, Ornn, Vel'Koz, and Volibear are all connected to the Watchers in one way or another.
