Wraith
Sapient undead spirits of the Shadow Isles, torn from their bodies by the Black Mist and defined by how firmly they hold on to who they once were.
Wraiths make up the bulk of the undead population on the Shadow Isles, and they are classified as sapient spirit-kind descended from the broader category of undead. Each one began as a living being whose soul was torn loose by the Black Mist that poured from a broken heart, leaving behind a distorted echo of the person who once existed. Among themselves they speak Ochnun, the Language of the Dead.
What separates one wraith from another is the durability of its identity. A spirit that holds tightly to who it was retains greater power, while a spirit with only a faint grip on its own memory ends up weaker. The strongest examples, known as Higher Wraiths, can pull themselves back into physical shape after dying and recover part or all of the appearance they had in life. At the opposite end sit the Lower Wraiths, a group that includes Mistwraiths. These cannot rebuild a body without help and instead merge together into shapeless masses of souls.
Several champions are tied to the wraiths and the Shadow Isles they haunt, among them Kindred, Lucian, Senna, Thresh, Viego, and Yorick.
