Yordle
Small, spirited beings from Bandle City with innate magic and irrepressible curiosity.
Yordles are a small, spirited race native to Bandle City, a whimsical spirit realm that exists alongside but apart from the physical world of Runeterra. Though they stand no taller than a child, yordles carry potent innate magic and an irrepressible curiosity that draws many of them out of their homeland to wander the mortal world. Most humans never see them as they truly are. A natural glamour surrounds every yordle, so that people perceive them as short, eccentric folk rather than the furred, bright-eyed creatures they actually are, while other yordles and the magically sensitive see through the illusion at once.
They are among the oldest races in existence, with lifespans that stretch across centuries. Some, like Poppy, have lived more than a thousand years and still keep their youthful energy. The portals between Bandle City and Runeterra shift and open unpredictably, and a yordle who ventures into the mortal realm may find the way home closed behind them. Over the ages this has scattered yordle communities across the world, from Heimerdinger's laboratory in Piltover to Kennen's place among the Kinkou Order of Ionia.
What unites them is a knack for the extraordinary. Yordles have made their names in invention, through tinkerers like Heimerdinger and Ziggs, in warfare, through soldiers like Tristana, Teemo, and Poppy, and in raw magic, through the likes of Lulu and Veigar. That same nature carries a hidden cost. A yordle who spends too long away from Bandle City and its kin risks losing touch with what they are, and the most isolated can grow dangerously unstable, as Veigar did in his descent into theatrical villainy. Ancient, magical, and easy to underestimate, yordles make the gentlest of company and turn genuinely dangerous when provoked.
