Black Mist Lantern

Weapon of Runeterra

Thresh's soul-trapping lantern, a Ruination-corrupted relic that imprisons souls in eternal torment.

The Black Mist Lantern began as an ordinary warden's lantern, carried through the vaults of the Blessed Isles by a cruel keeper of the dead. It held no power beyond the light it cast, until the Ruination shattered the islands. In that catastrophe the warden and his lantern were transformed together, the man becoming the tormentor known as Thresh and the lantern becoming a prison capable of holding souls. Since then the relic has served a single purpose. Thresh uses it to capture and imprison the souls of the dead and the living alike, and he takes a sadistic pleasure in the collecting. Those bound inside do not find rest but eternal torment, and the artifact glows with an eerie green light that burns brighter with every soul it consumes. The lantern is as much an extension of Thresh's cruelty as it is a weapon of the Shadow Isles. Thresh still carries the lantern as he wanders the Shadow Isles, killing as he goes and adding each new victim to those already trapped within. His long hunt has made him a figure of dread across Runeterra, a bogeyman of folklore whose approaching green glow warns that another soul is about to be claimed.
