The Mercury Hammer is Jayce's transforming hextech weapon, a device that shifts seamlessly between a crushing melee hammer and a long-range energy cannon. Powered by a hextech crystal, it fuses hextech energy with practical weaponry and represents the pinnacle of Piltovan innovation. Its dual form embodies Piltover's ethos of elegant, versatile design, letting the weapon adapt to any combat situation. Jayce conceived the hammer in the middle of a crisis. Reluctant at first and working over Viktor's strong objections, he came to see building a hextech weapon of his own as the only way to end the danger, and so the Mercury Hammer took shape. He forged it to defend Piltover from threats foreign and domestic, guided by his conviction that science should serve as a shield for the people. Jayce, the Defender of Tomorrow, is Piltover's golden boy and most celebrated inventor-hero, the public face of the city's innovation and its self-appointed protector. He wields the hammer with assured competence, and his hextech breakthroughs have advanced the city's technology by decades. The weapon is bound up with Jayce's falling out with Viktor, once his partner and collaborator. Their rivalry reflects the deeper divide between Piltover and Zaun: two brilliant minds who agree that technology is humanity's future but disagree about who it should serve. When Viktor pursued human evolution through forced mechanical augmentation, Jayce raised the Mercury Hammer against him, not out of malice but out of disagreement over what progress means.
