Rhaast

Rhaast is a Darkin scythe that houses the imprisoned consciousness of a corrupted Ascended, one of ancient Shurima's god-warriors. In the memories preserved by his kin, he is recalled as young Rhaast, his wit and ambition as sharp as his blade, counted among the Sunborn alongside Xolaani, Varus, Setaka, and Zaahen. When the god-warriors turned on the world that had made them, Rhaast fell fully to the Darkin corruption and became one of its most eager champions, swearing to slay the hated god Xuuyan with his own hand. His defiance was answered with imprisonment. Sealed into the form of a living scythe, he was lost for centuries, his awareness reduced to an endless war of divine and Darkin natures raging within the weapon that binds him. Zaahen, the enlightened Darkin who chose exile to stop his own kind, hunted him across lands and centuries, offering mercy that Rhaast met only with scorn and the demand that the world be ravaged by its forgotten masters. The scythe resurfaced during the Noxian incursion into Ionia, unearthed and left as a threat to the region's weary defenders. Shieda Kayn, the Order of Shadow's most prodigious acolyte and Zed's chosen student, was sent to keep the weapon from Ionian hands. Where any other acolyte would have destroyed the living blade, Kayn claimed it for himself. The corruption took hold the moment his fingers closed around it, locking wielder and weapon in a fateful struggle. Rhaast has long awaited the perfect host to carry him back to his Darkin brethren and lay the world to waste, and he corrupts everyone who dares touch his blade. Against him stands Kayn's will, undaunted by the creeping influence over his body and mind. Only two ends remain: Kayn bends the scythe to his purpose and becomes the Shadow Assassin, or Rhaast devours him body and soul, manifests fully, and turns his ancient hunger loose on all of Runeterra.
