Sun Disc

The Sun Disc is the monumental artifact at the heart of ancient Shurima's power, a colossal golden disc that draws down the raw energy of the sun. Built by the earliest Shurimans with the guidance of the Aspects of Targon, it was the instrument of the Ascension, the sacred rite that transformed a worthy mortal champion into a godlike Ascended being. Beneath its light, chosen warriors were remade into towering, animal-headed god-warriors who wielded blade and magic with equal ease. Nasus and Renekton were among those raised this way, and for centuries the Ascended stood as Shurima's greatest defenders. The Disc is bound to the empire's fall as much as to its glory. When the mortal emperor Azir stood before it to undergo the Rite of Ascension, his closest advisor Xerath betrayed him at the very moment the ritual began. The magic turned catastrophic, Azir was lost, and Shurima crumbled into the sands, its capital buried and its Sun Disc shattered. For millennia the ruined empire lay silent beneath the desert, its power broken along with the artifact that had fueled it. That silence ended with Azir's return. Resurrected thousands of years after his betrayal, the emperor completed the Ascension that had been stolen from him and, in doing so, restored the Sun Disc and raised the drowned capital back into the light. Active once more, the Sun Disc stands again as the seat of Shurima's ancient power and the promise of a reborn empire.
