The Darkin Slayer

The Shadowflame Knife, remembered in legend as the Darkin Slayer, is a legendary dagger forged for a single purpose: to destroy the Darkin. Where the Darkin's own weapons and the tools raised against them tend only to bind or seal such beings, this blade was made as a true countermeasure, capable of permanently ending an otherwise immortal Darkin rather than merely locking it away. The enemies it was made to hunt began as god-warriors of ancient Shurima, raised to hold back the endless assault of the Void before they turned to evil and returned as ruinous powers. Such creatures endure by claiming a living host to inhabit. The Darkin known as Rhaast is one example, driving his bloodlust through Ionia and cutting down the armies of Noxus while struggling for control against Kayn, the young assassin of the Order of Shadow who carries him. A weapon able to kill outright, rather than imprison, is a rare threat to a force that considers itself deathless. The blade's origins remain disputed. Some trace it to Targonian Aspects or celestial craftsmanship, matching its association with both Runeterra at large and the peak of Targon, while others attribute it to an unknown ancient power. Whatever its maker, the Shadowflame Knife is currently wielded rather than lost, counted among the few things the immortal Darkin have any reason to fear.
