Varus's Darkin Bow

The Darkin Bow is the prison of Varus, one of the Ascended warriors of ancient Shurima who were corrupted into the Darkin. The bow is not simply his weapon but his cage, the vessel into which his essence was bound after his fall. Like the other Darkin, Varus was eventually brought down. The Kinkou Order, aided by a figure called Zaahen, trapped him inside his own bow and buried it in a deep well under the mountain temple at Pallas in Shurima. There the weapon lay for thousands of years, and over the passing centuries the account of his captivity faded into fable and myth. This defeat and sealing followed the Darkin War, and the bow was left hidden in that pit-temple, all but forgotten. That imprisonment ended during the Noxian invasion of Ionia. Two Ionian hunters, Valmar and Kai, fell into the pit and unwittingly freed the sealed archer, and Varus merged with both of them to become a single composite being. Three consciousnesses, the Darkin Varus and the two hunters, now struggle for dominance inside one body, and the bow they share is once again wielded rather than sealed away.
